Welcome to Geppetto’s Blog! Welcome also to a new chapter in the history of a Salem staple. Tom Barsotti and his “Ma” opened Geppetto’s doors at 616 Lancaster Drive NE on August 26, 1974. In 1983 a young kid by the name of David Hoy began working there. In those days, David rode his bike all the way from his Candalaria neighborhood to make Geppetto’s infamous Chicago style pizza. David’s commitment to the restaurant and it’s recipes were proven with the test of time. In 2006 Tom sold the restaurant to David and the Geppetto’s traditions continued. After 34 years of hard work and dedication, on June 1, 2017, David sold Geppetto’s to his older brother, Roger Hoy and his wife Julie. The staff stayed on. The recipes and friendly, personal service remain unchanged. Geppetto’s is a family friendly restaurant with original recipes that continue to satisfy many a hungry customer. Roger and Julie have stepped into a wonderful wheel which has already been invented and has turned just fine for decades. A few tweaks here and there, great additions such as; house made cannoli and tiramisu have only added to the flavor and quality of the experience. You can say, “Bye bye to processed meatballs!” Julie’s recipe, handed down from a dear friend in Massachusetts are now a much loved addition. In Geppetto’s casual (hint of the seventies) environment you’ll find: our friendly staff along with a menu of delicious house made recipes, a wide variety of pasta dishes etc., Chicago style pizza, thin and thick crust, deep dish and stuffed. If you want great Italian food at an affordable price… look for the little red door and the porch light which is on seven days a week and has been for 43 years. We are here… ready to serve. More soon. Geppetto
